People suffering with depression may have a new shot at relief thanks to magnetic therapy.
According to a news report, non-invasive magnetic pulses are being tested as a treatment for clinical depression, which affects about 19 million Americans. The theory behind the treatment is that the magnetic pulses encourage the release of serotonin and dopamine, which affect the pleasure centers of the brain and counteract the symptoms of depression.
Clinical trials report that the procedure, which is performed in 40 minute increments over several weeks, successfully affects a third of participants.

Although the very laws of physics render perpetual motion impossible (the second law of Thermodynamics and the law of conservation of energy), Irish scientists claim to have constructed a perpetual motion device powered by magnets.
The machine, called Orbo, was first announced by Steorn in 2007, but disappeared after a problem plagued and inconclusive demonstration. CEO Sean McCarthy explains that power is generated from the magnets "with no apparent source," a claim that runs counter to the law of conservation of energy - which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
If McCarthy's claim is accurate, Orbo is a perpetual motion machine of the first kind, one that produces energy 'from nothing,' a device that produces what is essentially free energy.
Right now, Orbo is on display in Dublin, complete with a live video stream.

This weekend, NASA's Cassini spacecraft will be treated to quite a show: the interplay between the magnetic fields of Saturn and Titan, the ringed planet's largest moon.
NASA calls the flyby scheduled for 12/12/09 "prime measuring time" as the Cassini will pass by at a distance of about 3,000 miles.
Cassini previously encountered Titan in 2005.

Superconductor magnet spacecraft heat shield being developed
November 26, 2009 by Lin Edwards

(PhysOrg.com) -- European space agencies and an aerospace giant are developing a new re-entry heat shield that will use superconductor magnets to generate a magnetic field strong enough to deflect the superhot plasma formed during re-entry of returning spacecraft. They plan to test the new technology by attaching a test module to a missile and using a Russian submarine to fire it into space. Click Here to read more...
